Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the WLWV Parents’ Association?
We are parents who have come together to research, discuss and advocate on matters that affect our children’s education and our schools. We believe as critical stakeholders in the school community, that our voices are much more effective together than as individuals. We are open to all district parents and we welcome discussion of ideas that support the good of all students.

What is the mission of the association?
Our mission is to provide a place for parents to share ideas and goals for our children’s education, learn about and discuss the school system, and together advocate for our children's learning.

What is the history of the association?
The association was founded in early 2011 with two immediate goals: first, educating ourselves about the 6 million dollar budget deficit facing the WLWV School District in 2011-12, and second, providing suggestions for closing the gap. When the school district closed much of that gap with savings, we breathed a collective sigh of relief! Our goals for 2011-12 are currently focused around educating ourselves on matters of importance to us as parents of children in the WLWV School District.

Is the WLWV Parents’ Association a political action committee or is it affiliated with any PAC?
No. Our goal is not to be political, although we recognize that many decisions affecting our schools and children are made within the context of political bodies. We seek to define for ourselves the goals we would like to see achieved and then together work toward those goals through whatever channels necessary, be they at the school, district, school board or legislative level. Clearly each individual member may have positions that are based on his or her own political views, however WLWV Parents’ Association intends to provide unbiased information to its members for consideration in making Association decisions and representations.
